Halloween 2000 Project
Video of the main attraction
For Halloween 2000 my outside project consisted of two parts:
Audio
I created a 40 second audio loop that contained background noise of wind, a
heartbeat, a funeral bell and blood drip. I then added an owl hooting, a
ghost moaning, a scream, a door creaking, a wolf howling, dogs barking and a
cauldron bubbling to various portions of the track. I had this audio loop
playing continuously from a PC connected to a low power FM broadcaster. I
then hid a ghetto blaster in the front yard tuned the broadcast from the PC
in the house.
Action
To create my jumping witch I rigged a poly line to the the Oak tree in front of my
house at an aprox. height of 20 feet. The other end was secured to the
second floor roof line. I added a pulley on the line in the middle of
the front yard and a second pulley about 7 feet out from the house. A
second poly line attached to the "jumping witch" was then routed through the
pulley in the middle of the yard (20 ft up), to the second pulley just in front
of the house, and then down to the living room window on the first floor.
The line was knotted so that it would catch in the window when the window was
closed on the line. This allowed me to trigger the witch jumping to the
ground (~10ft jump) by simply opening the window. Eventually the neighbour
stopped by to find out why all the girls where screaming when they arrived
at his door, and I had one young fellow that after suddenly being introduced
to the witch had to stop and catch his breath before moving on to the next
house.
